The charms you create on the course will relate to special places, memories, names or dates. You will be introduced to a number of construction techniques through samples and tutor demonstrations. Intermediate or advanced students will be able to explore further techniques such as simple stone settings and casting. Everyone will leave with a truly unique and personalised charm bracelet.
After an introductory talk and display of a number of examples you will begin by creating your chosen chain to make into the bracelet. You will learn jump ring formation and practise your soldering skills. Once your bracelets are made you will progress to create your personalised charms. You will be introduced to a number of different construction techniques through samples and tutor demonstrations.
By creating charms that refer to places or personal items and using letters or names and dates your bracelet will be individual to you or the lucky recipient. Intermediate or advanced students will be able to explore even more techniques such as simple stone settings and casting methods.
Arrival Day - this is the first date listed above
Courses start early evening. Residential students to arrive from 4pm, non-residential students to arrive by 6.45pm.
6.45pm: Welcome, followed by dinner (included).
8 - 9pm: First teaching session, attendance is essential.
Classes 9.15 - 5pm, lunch is included.
From 6.30pm: Dinner (included for residential students).
Evening working - students may have access to workshops until 9pm, but only with their tutor's permission and provided any health and safety guidelines are observed.
Classes 9.15am - 3pm, lunch is included.
Residential students are to vacate their rooms by 10am please.

Laila Smith is a studio jeweller and tutor. Her mathematically inspired geometric jewellery is sold across the UK. She trained at Manchester Metropolitan University and then undertook a 15 month Fellowship in The Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham. She has 17 years teaching experience, both in further, higher education and leisure classes.
