Course Description

Commitment: 25-30 hours over five weeks

Working to a set brief, develop visual and contextual research skills to identify a personal response to a subject.

The course provides a structured approach to the research and development of your own artistic response to a brief. This will include drawing, mapping, primary and secondary sources and how to find them, reflection and review, finding your focus through creating an artwork. You will be given guidance on how to present the work, and complete a written summary statement.

By the end of the course you will have a list of sources, have identified relevant artists, influencers, lines of enquiry and completed a project plan. You will have presented and received feedback on work in progress, and direction to complete your final piece of work and how it may be presented. You will have gained confidence in independent study, identified subjects and materials that focus your practice. The final piece will then be submitted in your portfolio for assessment at the end of your course, including your project plan, the work, and summary statement.

Tutors

Caroline Wendling

FDAD Core Team Tutor and Short Course Tutor

Caroline Wendling's work explores ideas of place and belonging through layered projects that draw on history and explore local myths, inviting re-imagings of sites. She takes her audience on a physical, sensory and emotional journey leaving them with a poetic encounter and a story to tell. In 2012, she created her first walk near her studio. Subsequent walks took her to New York City, Norfolk, Suffolk and Scotland where she created White Wood, a living monument to peace that will develop over the next 900 years.

Tiffany Robinson

FDAD Programme Coordinator

Tiffany Robinson studied interactive media for her MA (2005) making art films and immersive sci-art installations on perception and nanoscale. She is currently a tutor, mentor (The Art of Enquiry) and walking artist making intuitive drawings using natural and digital media. Her work deals with a post-modern estrangement from nature towards a being more than human through alignment with nature.
