About this course

Develop and improve your throwing skills whilst focussing on making plates and platters. You will explore the different techniques and clays needed to make flatware as opposed to upright forms, and look at historical and contemporary examples of functional flatware for inspiration. Complete a set of side or dinner plates, or a large serving platter.


Alison Sandeman

Alison Sandeman is a long-standing tutor at West Dean. She makes functional individual pieces in stoneware, porcelain and Raku. She has a special interest in outdoor firing techniques.
