About this course

Explore generating ideas for your personal art practice, working with impasto and glazing in both acrylic and oil paint, whilst using collage and photo montage to stunning effect.

Course Description

The course provides a basis for the development of a personal practice; generating ideas through process, whilst exploring a range of methods and materials. It will act as a sort of sketchbook brainstorming hub, where you will investigate techniques and experimentation to instil a process of enquiry.

During the course you will explore the different properties and juxtapositions of collage/photo montage. You will then prepare light coloured impasto grounds, using acrylic paint and PVA as a base for your paintings. These will be used to apply techniques of glazing with oil paint over impasto and collaged/photo-montaged surfaces, building a skill base that enables you to unlock the creative and expressive potential of paint.

By the end of the course you will have gained confidence in working across a wide range of media to generate ideas. You will have acquired a diverse set of skills in working with collage and photo montage plus an understanding of using impasto and glazing with acrylic and oil paint. This will result in being well versed with the different properties of paint and it’s application to working with images in mixed media.
