About this course

Learn how to weave a traditional vegetable hod basket. You will learn a range of skills that will also be useful for other types of willow basket.

Course Description

Learn how to weave a traditional willow vegetable hod basket. It is designed to keep the vegetables in the dark and aerated, while always taking the oldest first.

The skills you’ll learn will be useful throughout all your other basketmaking endeavours. These may include lids, cordage handles, wale to border opening, lid borders and traditional skills of waling, randing, slewing and pairing.

This is an excellent basket to take your basketry skills to the next level. It is suitable for those who have some previous experience of willow basketmaking and have previously made at least one small basket and are familiar with handling willow. Please note that you may need to work into the evening to enable you to complete your hod.
