Beginners and experienced artists alike can benefit from exploring this most versatile of printmaking techniques. Going back to basics, learn to create simple stencils using cut paper.
This course is hands-on and practical. After a short introductory session, where the techniques of setting up and printing on your tabletop workstation and using paper stencils are demonstrated and explained, you will embark on your own design with the aid of the tutor.
You will learn:
Correct set up and printing technique
Registration
Mixing and using waterbased ink
Using transparent and opaque colours to produce overprints
By the end of the course, you will leave with a greater understanding of the process of silk-screen printing, and of the equipment and materials needed to produce simple silk-screen prints on a tabletop set up. You will take with you a series of experimental prints that explore layering and colour.
Timetable for one day courses
Students should arrive by 9am for registration.
Classes are from 9.15 - 5pm
Lunch is included.
Jane is a a graduate of Exeter University and the Barber institute Birmingham University. She has researched printmaking for Brighton University and is well known for her teaching both there and at her own studio Inkspot Press. She frequently exhibits at the Affordable Art Fair in London and Printfest in Cumbria, and won the John Purcell prize at the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers in London. Her work is in private and corporate collections, at The Mappin Art Gallery and at the Printmakers Council.
