The day will begin with the tutor introducing her delightful approach to making pictures in fabric, describing how she has arrived at her unusual way of working via a talk on her personal history and inspiration, taking a journey through her experiences: childhood delights, art school choices, teaching and exhibiting. She will demonstrate a series of ways in which to build up and develop an idea, colour choices, fabric choices and placement of different elements, using examples and illustrations she brings.
Following this, you will begin working on a picture, spontaneously with the fabrics, stitching and incorporating found items, with one-to-one assistance from the tutor, as required. After lunch, Janet will give guidance on various ways of presenting the work, including framing and preservation needs. Towards the end of the afternoon, work produced will be discussed, with an emphasis on discussing ideas developed during the day.
