About this course

Make small rubber printing blocks to create designs for festive cards, labels, envelopes and simple books with decorative covers.

Course Description

You will design and cut your own small rubber printing blocks, taking inspiration from historical block printing and festive motifs. Guided by the tutor, you will then experiment with repetition and pattern to create a suitable design. From this, you will produce a unique collection of festive greetings cards, labels and envelopes.

After lunch, you will learn how to make simple concertina and stab stitched books using a variety of papers. You then use your printing blocks to make decorative papers for the covers. The books can be used as gifts, notebooks or sketchbooks.

At the end of the day, you will take with you your stamps, cards, labels and envelopes, plus at least one book. You will have been introduced to simple printmaking techniques and be inspired to continue working from home.
