About this course

Make a leather sheath for a favourite knife or scissors, a tip for that special tool; or a smart leather case for a pen, comb, or credit card – all using hand tools and techniques.

Course Description

Do you need a smart leather slip case for a favourite pen or comb? Perhaps a sheath for a knife or favourite pair of scissors; or a tip to cover that special tool or blade?

On this relaxed one-day workshop, you will make an expertly finished and high-end leather accessory. You will make a unique case for a particular shaped item belonging to you, and learn how to create cardboard patterns and cutting templates to fit your item.

Working alongside you, your tutors Jeremy and Carla will demonstrate each step and process, and the traditional hand tools and techniques to complete them. This will include: -

• marking out the leather

• cutting out the leather using your template

• marking out for punch holes

• punching stitch holes

• hand stitching

• finishing edges

• riveting & press stud fixing


Timetable for one day courses

Students should arrive by 9am for registration.

Classes are from 9.15 - 5pm

Lunch is included.

Course Materials


  • On this course the tutor will supply most of the materials including: cardboard, leather, thread, wax, rivets, and press studs.

What students need to bring

  • The item you wish to make a sheath/slip case for
  • Comfortable enclosed toe footwear
  • Notebook and pencil

Jeremy and Carla Bonner

Jeremy and Carla Bonner established Bonner Leather Studio in 2014 just outside Cirencester, where they work together. Jeremy graduated from Birmingham School of Art and Carla graduated from Newcastle on Tyne Polytechnic.
