About this course

Learn how to create a website for your creative business or artworks using Wix. By the end of the day you will have a working website.

Course Description

This course is programmed as one of a series of five courses aimed at practising artists and makers who are keen to move their practice onto a more professional platform.

Aim

To build your own website for your creative business or artworks. You will make your website in Wix which is a user friendly platform that will be easy for you to edit after the course.

Objectives

•You will understand the fundamentals of setting up a website in a friendly, non-technical learning environment

•You will learn how to add content including text, images, galleries, and a contact page

•You will learn how to purchase your website name and connect it to your website

•We will talk briefly about other online opportunities to promote your work such as social media

•You will have the opportunity to ask technical questions and queries

Learning Outcomes

•By the end of the day you will have built a basic website and you will have the opportunity to publish it to make it live

•You will understand how to edit your site and add new content yourself

Sara Watkins is a business owner and designer creating online websites and experiences for medium sized businesses. She studied design at Goldsmiths College and worked for several years at the BBC working on large scale projects including the iPlayer. She now runs her own design consultancy.

Timetable

Timetable for one day courses

Students should arrive by 9am for registration.

Classes are from 9.15 - 5pm

Lunch is included.

Course Materials

  • On this course the tutor will supply a summary of what you have learnt at the end of the course.

What students need to bring

  • It is essential to bring images/photos of your work that we can use on your website. These could be on a memory stick or you could access them via your social media.
  • If you have a biography/CV/list of exhibitions then please bring this as a file on your memory stick.
  • A note of your Adobe login if you have one.
You will be allocated a PC workstation to use in the College’s IT suite. Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes stout covered footwear i.e. no open-toes or sandals. You may need safety boots, if specified above.

Tutors

Sara Watkins

Sara trained in design at Goldsmiths College and gained a Masters degree in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute. She has over 20 years experience designing and creating digital products for creative agencies in London, New York, and Switzerland.
