About this course

Make stained glass Christmas decorations – a stocking, present and holly, as you learn how to cut glass, copperfoil, solder and finishing.

Course Description

On this course you will make a set of three glass Christmas decorations – a stocking, present and holly. Each decoration measures about 11cm high. If time permits, you can make more decorations although there will be a charge for the extra materials, which should be paid to the tutor by cash/cheque on the day.

You will learn how to cut and prepare the glass, copperfoiling, soldering and finishing the hanging. Each stage will be demonstrated by the tutor and followed by individual tutor support.

Students should arrive by 9am for registration.

Classes are from 9.15 - 5pm

Lunch is included.

What students need to bring

  • An apron or other overall/old clothes and sturdy footwear.

  • If you would like to make more than three decorations you can buy extra materials from the tutor and pay by cash/cheque on the day.
Please note: If you are pregnant, you should consult your GP before enrolling on this course, as working with solder can be harmful to the developing baby.You must not wear open shoes or have bare legs (even if the weather is warm) in the studio. Do not wear loose clothing or dangly jewellery as it may get caught in machinery. Long hair must be tied back. You will spend most of the day standing up and may find it physically tiring.

Carole Gray trained in three-dimensional design at Middlesex University. She is a member of the Contemporary Glass Society and the British Society of Master Glass Painters.
