About this course

Discover the wonders of paper marbling. Using gouache paints and carrageenan size, learn the basics of equipment and materials set up, as you make a series of beautiful patterned papers.

Course Description

In this introduction to paper marbling, you will get hands-on with the basics to experience the joys of marbling. You will be shown the techniques for a series of patterns and will have time to explore these creatively on you own as you marble your own set of papers, which can be used for papercraft, bookbinding, collage, calligraphy and much more.

This satisying craft has seen a surge in popularity recently offering unique designs with minimal equipment to continue at home. The set up of equipment and materials will be discussed, with the focus on enjoying and exploring the marbling process.

Timetable for one day courses

Students should arrive by 9am for registration.

Classes are from 9.15 - 5pm

Lunch is included.

Course Materials

Included

  • On this course the tutor will supply all of the materials including size, mordant, paints, paper.

What students need to bring

  • Apron, kitchen roll, notepad
Materials to have a go at home will be available to purchase from the tutor, along with marbled papers.

Louise Brockman

Louise originally trained and worked as a Secondary School Science Teacher. After juggling full-time teaching with working for the family bookbinding business something had to give, so she left education and now works full-time with her husband Stuart. A long time admirer of marbled paper she took several courses which started an interest in this amazing and satisfying craft.
