About this course

Working closely with the model and the West Dean ambiance, this course is an ideal springboard for you to build a repertoire of drawings to extend into paintings at home.

Course Description

This one day course explores experimental and gestural mark-making in response to the figure. The day's aim is to build a repertoire of drawings that will act as inspiration for you to further develop in your own studio/home. The poses will be a combination of quick-rhythmic as well as slow-extended.

You are encouraged to bring your own go-to drawing equipment, working in the way you would when preparing material to inform a painting/artwork or series of paintings/artworks. The tutor will set poses and drawing exercises as well as offering one-to-one tutorial support where there will be an opportunity to discuss ideas about extending your drawings into final outcomes.

At the end of the day, there will be a plenary session where you will be able to present your body of work and review what you have created as a whole as well as explore potential ways in which to extend the work that you have produced. The life drawings you have generated might be used to inspire paintings, textiles, knitting, three-dimensional work or writing, depending on your area of expertise. This course is for you to use as a springboard into working independently at home.
