Wood, carving and turning
Ref: S1D10337
Beginners
£150On this one-day course, you will be introduced to the basic techniques of woodturning and turn one timber blank to make a small bowl. As you work on the lathe throughout the day, you will practise skills to gain confidence in working on the project.
Good working practice and essential health and safety requirements will also be discussed by the tutor and practised throughout. The day is designed to give you a taste of the experience of turning a bowl by using a gouge and a lathe, followed by finishing with abrasives. You will get a glimpse into the world of woodturning where pieces of wood can be converted into useful and decorative objects.
Please note that woodturning is a physically tiring and challenging activity, and requires you to be able to carefully follow the tutor’s instruction.
Having developed a taste for woodturning, attending a longer follow up course will give further insight to enable you to continue and practice turning on your own.
