Learn the basics of drawing and using pastels with a focus on still life subjects. You will be taught methods of measurement and composition to construct different works, from more conventional still life drawing towards abstract drawing.
You will look closely at colour and form to re-focus your attention on the surfaces, rather than the preconceived notions of the objects you draw.
You will learn different methods of applying dry media, mark-making and texture to build an image, layering and mixing colour to achieve depth and form. The skills exercised on this course can be used in many aspects of your practice, and are a great start in using chalk as a versatile medium to produce different types of work.
This course is ideal for beginners but will serve to reiterate some skills already learned, and perhaps pose new methods for those who are confident in using chalks and dry media.
