Learn how to design simple imagery and lettering into festive paper-cut cards and designs, as you master using a scalpel safely.
The ancient art of paper cutting is enjoying a resurgence of interest and this course offers you the chance to master the basics and learn how to use a scalpel safely, how to design for successful paper cutting and how to present your finished work.
You will start with some simple cutting exercises to learn how to use the scalpel to best effect, move on to designing a simple festive motif. Your second paper cut will be a card that stands up, using lettering and simple imagery. You might produce a couple of different designs. (Don't worry if you consider yourself a non-drawer, Christine will help you)
Christine will be bringing a wide variety of resources to inspire you including Haitian metal work, Polish, Mexican and Swiss examples of paper cuts and lots of examples of her own and her students' work. Your finished paper cuts will be unique to you and could make great Christmas gifts.
Please note: Students should not have any issues to impede safe use of a scalpel.
