About this course

Combine metal leaf, metallic transfer foil and metallic powders to create bold images and intriguing backgrounds for a series of unique cards.

Course Description

Learn how to apply real metal leaf and metallic transfer foil on paper to create both motifs and intriguing backgrounds and embellishment for a unique series of cards. Make metallic varnishes to create subtle and dramatic textured papers which can be sliced, layered and punched. You will have the opportunity to experiment with dramatic combinations and layouts for both plain and aperture cards before assembling some of your designs. Take away a variety of ideas together with a wide collection of samples for future development and use.


Timetable for one day courses

Students should arrive by 9am for registration.

Classes are from 9.15 - 5pm

Lunch is included.

  • The course fee includes the cost of all materials provided by the tutor for use by the group.

What students need to bring

  • Apron
  • Scissors
  • Variety of paint brushes
  • Cellophane / plastic
  • Thin textured surfaces & fabrics (pressed leaves, scrim, lace etc).

Jo Mabbutt

Jo's initial training was in wood graining, marbling, gilding and specialist paint finishes at Guildford College. She also gained a Cert. Ed. and taught in FE for 8 years. She up-skilled at Central St Martins and now balances being a designer/maker with teaching workshops and lecturing all over the country
