Artists-in-Residence 'In Conversation' at Cass Sculpture Foundation

West Dean College has partnered with Cass Sculpture Foundation for its annual kiln project. Over the course of two-weeks, four Glasgow-based artists will be resident at West Dean and develop a series of new ceramic works in the purpose built studios. These will then be fired in a wood-kiln in the grounds of Cass Sculpture Foundation and exhibited later in the year.

You are invited to join us around the wood-fired kiln at Cass Sculpture Foundation, whilst the ceramic works are fired, for an informal discussion with artists Josée Aubin Ouellette and Suzanne Dery. Please feel free to bring your own picnic and drinks.

Saturday 3rd September, 5pm, Cass Sculpture Foundation

About the Project:

Over the course of the year these artists have been working together to explore the different forms of labour associated with ceramics and the psychological implications of clay. They have created a diverse body of work that encompasses poetry, sculpture, ceramics and performance. The first part of the project took part in April when the artists undertook a period of making-based research in the ceramics studio at Glasgow Sculpture Studios. This was then developed into a body of writing, which was performed during an event as part of Glasgow International Festival at SWG3 Gallery. The West Dean College residency marks the second stage of the project, where they will refine this research period into a series of ceramic works for exhibition.

Artists: Jennifer Bailey, Suzanne Déry, Aideen Doran and Josée Aubin Ouellette.

Cuators: Josée Aubin Ouellette, Claire Shea and Helen Turner
