Textile Workshop - Michael Brennand-Wood & Philip Sanderson
Renowned artist Michael Brennand-Wood joins forces with Philip Sanderson, Creative Director of West Dean Tapestry Studio and Associate Tutor on the full-time Visual Arts Programmes, to run a 5-day Creative Development Textile Workshop at the end of this month. The course runs from Monday 27 May - Friday 31 May.
Under the title 'Fusion and Transformation', the workshop will integrate aspects of both tutors' work, covering both technical and conceptual considerations. Taking the idea of 'warp' threads, or elements under tension, as an initial starting point, students will create structures upon which to build. A variety of techniques will be used, including weaving, knotting, wrapping, thread construction, collage and supplementary warps to define space within the primary structure. Emphasis is placed on the development of imagery and group discussions are an important part of the course.
