Continuing MFA student, Merna Liddawi, has been shortlisted for the 2016 Gemini Prize and her work will be exhibited at Asia House Gallery in London between 23rd and 30th September 2016. The Gemini Prize is an independent competition to promote international contemporary art for emerging and established artists from Asia and across the world.
Hala Sabet's wooden compositions inside Colonnade House[/caption]
Continuing MFA student Hala Sabet was invited to install work in the soon-to-open Colonnade House, a new creative hub in Worthing providing studio spaces and a ground-floor gallery.

Cathy Griffiths, recent graduated from the Postgraduate Diploma in Visual Arts at West Dean College, recently exhibited her textile-based work as part of an exhibition hosted by RSM in Guildford, supported by Guildford Arts. Cathy also gave an artist's talk on her practice, emphasising how her work is "inspired by the visual and tactile nature of cloth. Her recent work is rooted in a specific but transitional location. Griffiths observes the wear and tear of materials, looking for the point at which original structure breaks down, questioning whether the outcome is destructive, transformative or both. The use of natural and manipulated processes creates transitions, taking work to the edge of its own collapse both literally and metaphorically. Key to these ideas is the dual nature of textile - the oppositional elements of cloth continue to fascinate. It can have fragility or strength, transparency or opacity, lightness or weight. These qualities make it an ideal material with which to examine the mutability of memory and its unravelling."
Two recently graduated Visual Arts students, Kate Boucher (MFA) and Alice McVicker (MA), exhibited as part of 'The Mediated Landscape', a group show at St. Alphrege Hall, London. The exhibition was co-curated by Alice during her studies toward a Master of Arts degree, forming a key part of her Professional Development portfolio.
Visual Arts Alumnus, Margaret Jones, was recently awarded the Cordis Showcase Prize 2016 for her piece, Red Shift II. The judges were impressed by the "technical execution of this piece with its superb use of contrasting fine and coarse weaving. The dramatic and painterly image together with a strong colour palette clinched its winning status."The Cordis Trust, in association with Visual Arts Scotland and The Scottish Café, will stage the second exhibition of work by students of tapestry weaving at the National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh. It will run alongside the VAS exhibition from 3rd December 2016 until 28th January 2017. The exhibition, 'Tapestry Showcase', will comprise up to 40 pieces, and successful participants will be able to offer their work for sale. The prize was open to anyone in the UK who had been studying tapestry in the last three years and there were over 100 entries.
