Artist-in-Residence - LouLou Morris

Local tapestry artist LouLou Morris, who studied for an MFA in Tapestry & Textile Art at West Dean College, has just begun a month-long residency at Chichester Cathedral. The project, which is a collaboration between West Dean and the Cathedral, will see LouLou weaving a new work called 'Rebuilder' in the North Transept throughout February.

Although the theme of the residency project is linked to the collapse and subsequent rebuilding of the Cathedral spire, LouLou has chosen a specific quotation ["Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the foundations of past generations. You will be called the Rebuilder of Broken Walls and the Restorer of Streets Where People Live" Isaiah 58:12] to explore the idea of 'rebuilding' in other ways, seeing direct associations between tapestry weaving and architectural construction.

The Cathedral will host a number of workshops for schools and families based on the project, where visitors will have the opportunity to see a tapestry being woven, to learn about the design and construction processes and the inspiration behind the work. LouLou will also give a presentation about the residency, as well as her practice in general, at West Dean College on Monday 18th February.
