She continues: "This unlikely cast of characters relate to a broader social concern, which sees mankind tempering animalistic urges in favour of social conditioning. The strange meetings in my work serve to query the benefits accorded to those who obey mechanisms of social control as opposed to those who adopt a marginal existence because of unconventional behaviour. My constructed environments draw upon the specific internal logic of self-contained worlds from broad and disparate sources as the music video Wiley's Rolex (2008) and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World (1932)."

Freya Pocklington was born in Lancaster, UK (1984) and completed her BA in Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art (2006) and her MA in Drawing at Wimbledon College of Art (2009). She has received residencies from The Royal Scottish Academy (2006), Scottish Arts Council (2007), Chichester Cathedral (2010) and The Florence Trust (2011). She has exhibited in exhibitions in the UK and abroad including: The Jerwood Drawing Prize, Art Below for Frieze Art Fair, BITE: Artists Making Prints, Art Amsterdam, Discerning Eye Drawing Bursary and The Royal Scottish Academy. Pocklington is interested in project work including an Arts Council England Project at Maggs Bros and The Library of Lost Books Project. She has won a number of prestigious awards including John Kinross Travelling Scholarship to Florence (RSA) and The James Cumming Award for Draughtsmanship (ECA). Her work is well received by the press with articles in Elephant Magazine, BBC News online, Country Life, Printmaking Today, Wall Street International Magazine, The Week, Platform 505 and London Loves. She is a lecturer and tutor at Arts University Bournemouth, The Victoria and Albert Museum, UAL and West Dean College.
