Open House, the capital's largest annual festival of architecture and design

Philip Sanderson, Master Weaver at West Dean Tapestry Studio will be giving a talk on his art tapestry, Parliament at Portcullis House, Palace of Westminster - the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords the two houses of the Parliament of the UK. Part of the annual Open House event in London, the capital's largest annual festival of architecture and design.

Parliament was woven at West Dean between 1999-2001. There are two tapestries, each is 7.2m x 1.5m (woven in three panels that hang as one piece).

Open House London

Open House was started in 1992 as a small, not-for-profit organisation to promote public awareness and appreciation of the capital's building design and architecture. The intention was to open up London's splendid buildings to the general public who don't otherwise have access.

Master Weaver

Philip Sanderson is a Master Weaver and Designer at West Dean Tapestry Studio and Associate Tutor on the full time Tapestry and Textile Art programme. After a Foundation at Cleveland College of Art Philip studied Tapestry Weaving as part of the Constructed Textiles BA (Hons) at Middlesex University. He went on to study MA in Tapestry Weaving at the Royal College of Art. His work is rooted in a Landscape tradition, usually working with photographic imagery that is then translated into woven tapestry. Philip work was shortlisted for the John Ruskin Prize; Recording Britain Now and The Cordis Prize for Tapestry.
