Laura Baxter makes precious jewellery, metal wall panels and silverware inspired by botanical forms. The intention of her work is to capture the essence and beauty found in plant life. The work reflects how plants change and grow throughout the seasons and explores the potential of working with light and shadow. Designs are graphic yet delicate and have a simple, timeless elegance. All of Laura Baxter’s work is handmade in limited edition ranges and as one off pieces.
Inspired by nature and organic forms, Laura’s ranges of hand-made jewellery are sympathetically composed from the combination of precious metals, stones and natural found objects. Working instinctively, exploring the natural qualities of the materials used, the collections celebrate the fragile forms found in nature, creating beautifully delicate pieces to treasure.
Laura is primarily interested by shape and colour, depicting landscape and coast, and is fascinated by pattern, light, weather and seasonality. She prints with lino and wood and is passionate about the hand cut, hand pulled print. Laura's residencies in Japan continue to influence her need to simplify and arrange her landscapes. Her painterly approach to inking reflects a love of texture and mark making outside of conventional cutting.
Lesley Strickland designs and makes jewellery from cellulose acetate, a wonderful material derived from cotton oil, which she then combines with sterling silver. Each piece is shaped by hand and thermo-formed, to create simple, elegant wearable work.
Liz designs and makes contemporary silver jewellery at her studio in Farnham, using gemstones, 18 ct. and 22 ct. gold, and a combination of textured and plain pieces of silver to achieve contrast in colour and surface on each piece. Generally her jewellery is three dimensional and fairly bold.
