West Dean Gardens' Apple Affair is a celebration of the best of the British autumn harvest including the impressive apple harvest from West Dean's own orchards and pumpkins and gourds from the Victorian Kitchen Garden.

  • Katie Rushworth, Queen of Spades, one of the presenters on ITVs 'Love Your Garden', will be talking about what to cook from your allotment.

West Dean Apple Affair is held during the British Food Fortnight (17 September - 2 October). Visitors can bring their own apple varieties along for identification and shop at around 30 artisan stalls offering seasonal produce and products. Apple Affair is a great day out near Chichester for all the family.

Jean-Christophe Novelli will be cooking the famous Ze Novelli Academy Tarte Tatin and a Caramel Basket Late-summer Berry Surprise.

Giles Thompson, owner of The Earl of March in Lavant, will be cooking three courses with an apple theme including West Dean partridge, Loin of Funtington pork and Apple Charlotte with lavender honey cream.

Juice & Strain - Cider making made simple Dr Nevin Stewart will be sharing his effective yet economic way of producing very drinkable apple juice, cider or apple wine.

Katie Rushworth - Queen of Spades from ITV's Love Your Garden will be demonstrating how you can make speedy soups from your allotment.

Laura Uphill - Medical Herbalist & Practitioner of Classical Chinese Medicine. Laura will be talking about hedgerow foods and the important health benefits that eating local, seasonal foods can bring.

Apple Affair FAQs

Here are a few of our top tips and FAQs:

Q. Is it possible to pay on the gate?
A. Yes, it is possible to pay on the gate for day tickets but early bird tickets save 20% (book by 26 September), and entry is typically quicker with a ticket.

Q. Do I get tickets sent to me?
A. Tickets are now issued electronically and will be emailed to you. Print off the email confirmation which should show a bar code/reference number and bring it with you on the day.

Q. Can I just show you the e-ticket on my phone?
A. Yes. Please ensure your booking reference number is on show.
