West Dean Gardens are open to the public from February to December. See below for our opening hours and prices.

Access to the Gardens on event days is restricted to those with tickets. This applies to House Opening, Design & Craft Fair, Chilli Fiesta and Apple Affair.

Dogs that are kept on a short lead are welcome in West Dean Gardens.

Friends of West Dean can benefit from free access to the gardens:

Garden Friends - free access (February - December) except during the Design & Craft Fair and Saturday and Sunday of the Chilli Fiesta and the House Opening weekend.

College Friends - free access (February - December) including all events

RHS Members - free access to the Gardens (except May - September). Applies to main member and excludes special event days.

Gift Aid

When you add a donation of at least 10% to your admission price (the Gift Aid price). The Government allow us to claim Gift Aid on the entire amount you pay. Your gift aided entry at £9.40 enables us to claim £2.35 which helps to maintain our Gardens. Thank you!

Opening Hours and Admission Prices

The Gardens Restaurant and Shop opens at 9am Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays with full access to the Gardens.

Last entry is 30 minutes before closing time.

Free entry for children - additional charge on event days for children 5+.

*Applies to groups of 15+. Please book in advance to qualify for group rate. Extra charge for events.


The shop, restaurant and the majority of the gardens are accessible to wheelchair users. Please contact us in advance to make the most of your visit.

How to find us

West Dean Gardens is 6 miles north of Chichester on the A286 towards Midhurst.

The entrance to the Gardens is clearly signposted off the A286 (N.B. West Dean College has a separate entrance). Free parking is available, with designated spaces for disabled visitors and coaches.

For satellite navigation use postcode PO18 0RX to find West Dean Gardens.

By train: the nearest train station is Chichester, from where you can pick up a taxi or the number 60 bus.

By bus: the number 60 bus runs from Midhurst to Chichester bus station (opposite Chichester railway station) every half hour Monday - Friday.
