    Artist Talk

    A talk by Sussex-based artist Joseph Long exploring the lesser known flower paintings of Piet Mondrian, one of the founders of the Dutch modern movement De Stijl. The talk will question what motivated Mondrian, an artist renowned for the purity of his abstract paintings, to make over 150 flower paintings during his lifetime.

  • Artist Talk: Ivan Hicks - Corresponding with Edward James

    Artist Talk

    Ivan Hicks was Head Gardener at West Dean and Monkton House between 1973 and 1984. His friendship with Edward James saw them travel together to Eire, Italy and Mexico developing various projects, as well as a richly decorated correspondence - arguably a collection of 'Mail Art'. This illustrated talk explore a unique working relationship with Edward James.
