The Introduction and part of a translated text (by Edward James) of Salvador Dalí's iconic lecture at the International Surrealist Exhibition in London in July 1936, which was recently found among miscellaneous papers in the archive of West Dean College of Arts and Conservation is on display for the first time in an exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery in London. Complementing the major retrospective Eileen Agar: Angel of Anarchy, the archival exhibition Phantoms of Surrealism runs from Wednesday, May 19 to Sunday, December 12, 2021 and examines the pivotal role of women as artists, organisers, editors and animators of the Surrealist movement in Britain.

A high-profile loan from the Collection of West Dean College of Arts and Conservation is currently featuring in an exhibition Objects of Desire. Surrealism and Design. 1924 – 2020 at CaixaForum Seville.

Two Artist residencies have been announced at West Dean College of Arts and Conservation as part of the Whose Heritage research project, set up to explore the College’s African Collections. Sherie Sitauze and Sonia Barrett have been chosen following an open call which was run in collaboration with award-winning arts charity Outside In.

Submissions are now open for artists from national charity Outside In or artists that fit the criteria of the charity in terms of facing significant barriers to the art world for reasons including health, disability, social circumstances or isolation to undertake a residency at West Dean College of Arts and Conservation.
 

A rarely heard original 1939 recording of Salvador Dalí’s poem The Dream of Venus from the Archive of West Dean College of Arts and Conservation is on loan to the Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck, Germany. The exhibition, Salvador Dalí and Hans Arp – The Birth of Memory explores the parallels between the two artists, featuring well-known works from international museums and collections.
