Katina Riba
Katina Riba lives in Mexico City and trained there and in New
York. In Valle de Bravo, Mexico she teaches and works with the
artisan community to preserve ancient traditions and crafts. She
has taught on short courses in London at the Tate Britain and
National Gallery. She is an expert in "Guadalupe" the Mexican
symbol of cultural unity. Katina has exhibited in the Museo del
Carmen and Museo Franz Mayer in Mexico.
Describe your approach to teaching:
I awaken personal inner talent by encouraging students to learn how
to feel and express using creative methods. I teach students how to
connect colours with feelings and enjoy the process of
creating.
What inspires your own work?
Mexico has an unlimited source of crafts, traditions and colours
that nourish my imagination and my soul; this helps me to produce
innovative and evocative work allowing me to connect myself with my
Mexican heritage and identity.
