Julie Kline
Julie Kline has City and Guilds Awards in both Textiles and Fashion which she followed with a BA (Hons) in Fashion at Plymouth College of Art and Design. Most of her training has been through her practice and working with specialized Passementerie companies. Her work is found in several Royal Palaces and State buildings including Windsor Castle and Holyrood Palace, as well as heritage properties in the UK and world-wide. She has taught for all ages both in the UK and abroad since 1986.
Since 1989 Julie has worked as an independent hand weaver
specializing in the production of traditional 17th century
historical passementerie and has been privileged to have had
several Royal Appointments including restorations for Windsor
Castle, Hampton Court and Kensington Palace. She has also had
commissions from English Heritage and the National Trust as well as
numerous major projects around the world.
Describe your approach to teaching:
I love teaching as I can learn as much from the students as they
can from me. Things are never 'wrong' and I love new approaches and
ideas.
What inspires your own work?
I am inspired by traditional techniques and styles and try to match
these to the unique personality of each new commission. The art of
hand making is always of paramount importance for me.
