Moulding and casting within conservation

Dates: 28 October–1 November 2013
PC1306 (4 day course)
Non-residential fee:
£521

Moulding directly from the surface of an original three-dimensional object can be problematical due to the complexity of form, condition and the vulnerability to chemical staining caused by the application of various mould making materials, resulting in potentially irreversible damage to the original. Following a short historical introduction, this practical but fairly intensive course tackles many of the problems associated with modern moulding systems. Students of varying abilities will be guided through the technicalities of piece-mould making, as well as the artistic stages of casting and colour matching.
