This course will equip participants with the current knowledge of factors which affect the integrity of materials in collections, how to assess and prioritise those risks and develop ways to mitigate them appropriate to the collections and available resources. The topics covered will include monitoring and control of the environment, light and lighting, gaseous and particulate pollutants, biological agents (mould and pests) and the mechanical damage resulting from handling, routine cleaning and the visitors themselves. The course will include plenty of hands-on practical sessions with the latest equipment and opportunities to exchange ideas and experience.
