Professional conservators in practice

There are relatively few opportunities for mid-career professionals to find specialist training in specific aspects of their discipline, or to refresh their skills and update their knowledge of developments in materials and techniques. In the professional conservators in practice programme, West Dean College joins with other institutions in the development of a series of short courses designed to meet this training need.

The Programme

West Dean College has joined with other institutions to develop a series of short courses designed for professional conservators to refresh their skills and update their knowledge of developments in materials and techniques. Collaboration with the relevant specialists and organisations ensures the highest levels of expertise are offered on these specialist training courses. Teaching approaches vary according to the demands of the subject matter.

Some courses are workshop-based with a high practical content while others are conference-style events. Numbers per course are carefully considered to ensure high levels of personal tuition while encouraging discussion and debate.
