Buildings interiors and sites
This West Dean College diploma is awarded in recognition of the successful completion of a specified number of Building Conservation Masterclasses (BCMs) and the submission of a final essay. The BCMs are highly regarded, intensive three-day practice-based short courses which have been established at West Dean College since 1999. They cover a coherent range of aspects of the conservation of buildings, their interiors and the management of their sites. The facilitiesThe provision of a first class physical environment at West Dean College and in the nearby Weald & Downland Open Air Museum provides a base in a rural location with many different historic buildings within easy reach. The unique ruinette at West Dean - on which students can practise conservation and repair techniques - is a purpose-built structure exhibiting many of the problems found on historic buildings.
