Michael Podmaniczky

Mike is the Conservation of Furniture Programme Tutor at West Dean, formerly of Winterthur Museum and the University of Delaware, USA.

Norbert Gutoswki
After an apprenticeship in cabinet making in Germany in the early eighties, Norbert successfully followed the West Dean Furniture Restoration diploma course. He then practised for ten years with a variety of commercial firms before becoming a lecturer at Rycotewood College. Having undertaken a teacher training course, he became Course Director of the HND there. He has been at West Dean since 1996 and continues to practise here.
Norbert's fascination with furniture conservation and restoration stems partly from an interest in the influence that political, social and economical history has had on the development of furniture. It also stems from the fact that a furniture conservator is introduced to many disciplines while working on an object, all of which command a high level of skills and commitment, and a finished object brings great satisfaction.
