Music and Music Appreciation

Practical music making and lecture-based music appreciation courses at West Dean continue to attract large numbers of like-minded students, and this expanded programme offers a mixture of established favourites and new developments. The Music Summer School in Classical Guitar and the Chilingirian String Quartet summer course are long established highlights of the music calendar and provide superb coaching and learning opportunities for participants. For music performances and concerts open to the public, please see our news and events page.

Teaching facilities

The music courses are held in the College's well-equipped teaching rooms with excellent acoustics. Most include opportunities for informal performances by the students or short recitals by the tutors. Performances open to the public are held in the old library, or the Sussex Barn and West Dean Church.
