The walled kitchen garden

WALLED KITCHEN GARDEN

The restored Victorian walled kitchen garden contains a vast collection of unusual, exotic and well-known vegetables and fruit. Many varieties grown are obtained from the Heritage Seed Library and various gardens throughout the world. The garden is forever changing with the change of the seasons: in summer, the path that runs through the kitchen garden becomes a mass of yellow, orange and red, affectionately known as the "Hot Border"!

"West Dean has a large walled garden whose standards are wonderfully high. Greenhouse after greenhouse smiles with top-class plants, fruit and rarities. There is not a weed in sight and the beds are so professional kept that they make televsion gardening programmes seem like blind man's bluff." Robin Lane Fox, FT

Throughout the summer, there are various garden events at which we display our wonderful collections of fruit and vegetables.
