The design for the kneeler was inspired by the natural elements, namely the oak tree and it’s leaves, which can be found both within the fabric of the church (stained glass work and stone and wood carving) as well as the surrounding environment.
The oak leaf is depicted in it's different forms as it moves through the cycle of the seasons. The viewer sees two different views of the leaves: on the trees (Spring/Summer) and on the ground as the leaf falls to decompose (Autumn/Winter) eventually regenerating and returning in the Spring.
The text which runs along the front edge of the kneeler is “the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations” from Revelations and was chosen by the church.
