West Dean Gallery’s annual buying exhibition, Effervescence IV, opens its doors this year on 28 November and is now open until 14 February. The show is a perfect opportunity for seasoned collectors and first-time buyers to purchase the work of some of the strongest new talent in designing and making from around the world, and to discover unique and distinctive work, as well as buying individually made items to one off works of art.
Amongst exhibitors this year are:
Alex R. A regular exhibitor at West Dean Gallery, Alex’s work has proved very popular at past Effervescence shows. Intricate surfaces are the signature style of her glass work whether it is through the use of richly layered colour or elaborate textures. Alex’s work is opulent and often incorporates iridescent and reflective surfaces, which means the glass is effective under many different lighting conditions.
Fleur Grenier, whose designs are a combination of sculpture and function, uses soft flowing lines and feminine curves to enhance the materials and entice people to explore and handle them.Fleur only uses lead-free pewter in her work, so unlike old pewter it will not tarnish and become grey. She utilises a variety of processes such as casting, stamping, hand-forming and etching to produce her designs and has recently also started to work with other materials such as wood and slate, which she incorporates in her designs as they also have a tactile quality which compliments the pewter.
Melanie Tomlinson, is inspired by a deep passion for nature and its protection. Her sculptures spring from narrative from all over the world, particularly folklore and mythology, and also her own experiences of being with nature.
Hsiao-Chi Tsai is based in London and works and exhibits internationally. Combining both hand and industrial methods, Tsai has developed innovative processes that transform flat materials into organic sculptural pieces. Tsai’s unique approach of using non-textile materials such as, foam, Perspex and sheet metal, combined with a strong textile aesthetic to create large-scale intricate sculptures, has won her impressive site-specific commissions.
Marco Marcusus’ work consists of ladies and men’s apparel and accessories. These are exquisite contempory handcrafted pieces, offering a unique collection of wearable art. Eye-catching and rich in detail, all products are handmade and constructed using pearls, crystal, rhinestones and semi precious materials.
Effervescence lV is the perfect opportunity to enjoy and buy some truly individual pieces of contempory craft.
