Mountain Boarding

It’s one thing to stand and look at the rolling slopes of the South Downs National Park – it is another thing to hurtle down them on a ‘board’. Haredown Mountain Boarding will bring their expertise from their nearby centre to West Dean for the weekend offering you the opportunity to have a go at this exhilarating, cool and totally different extreme sport! Whether you are an expert already or just a beginner, they will make it challenging enough for the experienced and easy enough for the first-timers.

Ballroom Dancing

Ragroof Theatre will be hosting stylish afternoon tea dances for all ages and levels of experience on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Come and trip the light fantastic to the sounds of the roaring 20s, 30s and 40s and be transported back to the glamorous heyday of ballroom dance, with a dash of luscious Latin, waltz, foxtrot and scintillating swing.

Providing authentic and diverse entertainment for everyone (participants and spectators), the tea dances will include a DJ for discerning dancers, dance displays, instant dance classes aimed at absolute beginners and plenty of opportunity for experienced dancers to show their terpsichorean skills.

Walking

The St Roche's Arboretum is a special place to enjoy stunning views and get some welcome exercise. It offers a two-and-a-half-mile circuit walk that encompasses a fine collection of specimen trees and shrubs. From here you will be able to look down on the Festival site or enjoy far-reaching views across the South Downs and out to the coast.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a unique and fascinating system that trains both body and mind to produce excellent health, fitness and well-being. Developed in China over a period spanning thousands of years it is highly effective and a practical tool for modern life. Although practised by most people for its remarkable ability to improve health Tai Chi can also, through dedicated training, be developed as an effective means of self-defence.

These taster sessions will be led by Sam Moor of Sussex Tai Chi and will cover simple warm-ups, basic movements and priciples of the Chen style of Tai Chi. All ages and abilities are welcome. Sam teaches Tai Chi full time across Sussex running regular classes, workshops and private tuition. He has trained extensively in China over the years and has had numerous articles published on the subject.

Yoga

Venetia Davidson has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and is trained by the British Wheel of Yoga. Her classes are gentle, ensuring self respect for the body, and are mostly aimed at an intermediate level but beginners and more advanced students are welcome and will be accommodated.

Venetia’s classes are integral, meaning that she incorporates different styles from different schools of hatha yoga and will always include relaxation, breathing practices and stronger posture work.Loose comfortable clothing is advisable. Non slip mats and blocks are provided. Max 10 people per session.
