Farms
The Estate has twelve farms of 1,600 hectares (4,000 acres) in total. Seven of these farms are let, the principal holdings ranging from 80 to 200 hectares (200 to 500 acres) in size.
The five in-hand farms, which include the Park, totalling 770 hectares (1,900 acres), are farmed through the Foundation‘s farming company, Karova Farms Ltd. (The Company was named by Edward James who in a flash of surrealism proposed ‘Karova‘, it being the Ukrainian word for "cow".
Karova Farms produce milk, lamb, beef and a variety of cereal and feed crops. Milk is currently sold to Marks and Spencer on a guaranteed Genetically Modified-free food contract, Karova being one of only 60 eligible farmers in the UK.
