Wendy Jacob

I aim to give the student knowledge of basic techniques and through practical experience to gain confidence in their ability.I encourage students to look hard at other artists working is a similar medium, both historic and modern, to contextualise the work they are creating.
What will students gain if they come on one of your courses?I bring the experience of a working artist to my teaching. I seek to help the individual student in terms of their needs and I encourage them to work in their own idiom. A student should leave one of my courses more confident in their ability, with more technical skills and go home with several finished paintings.
Are there any particular techniques/processes you use in your teaching?I set simple exploratory tasks for the whole group at the beginning of the course to stimulate, inform and excite. As the course goes on the student will progress to make more personal work and I teach on a one to one basis.
What inspires your own work?I am excited by landscape, and go around with me eyes wide open looking for the effect of unexpected, constantly changing light.
Where can students see examples of your work?Regularly at the Bankside Gallery London. On the RWS Website.
Where did you gain your training? Experience?I trained at Hammersmith College of Art. I worked as a free-lance illustrator working for The Times. The Sunday Times and many other publications for many years. I have been painting and exhibiting since 1989. My work has been selected for The RA Summer Exhibition, The Singer and Friedlander Competition, New English Art Club, The Discerning Eye.
Teaching experience:I have taught two courses at West Dean.
Professional groups and societies:I am a Member of the Royal Watercolour Society.
