What will students gain if they come on one of your courses?

Learn how to adapt a bought pattern to fit your body with the emphasis on eliminating the mystery of pattern terminology and to have the confidence to produce a well fitting dress.

Are there any particular techniques/processes you use in your teaching?

There will be a few short cuts as used in the fashion industry to make the sometimes lengthy process faster. Demonstrations, handouts and tips on where to buy fabrics and haberdashery will feature in the teaching, to enable the student to carry on projects at home.

What inspires your own work?

I enjoy designing within a brief and always keeping the function of the garment in mind. Whether it’s a bias cut wedding dress with a concealed figure enhancing underbodice, or a uniform with carefully cut raglan sleeves to allow more movement. I want to make the wearer feel as comfortable and confident as possible.

Where can students see examples of your work?

On my website as well as the Dorchester Hotel Spa, Harvey Nichols Restaurants.

Where did you gain your training/experience?

I completed an Art foundation course in Cambridge followed by an HND in Fashion at London College of Fashion. My first job was with Nicole Farhi but in 1993 Ieft to set up my own business designing and making couture clothing. In 1995 I opened a showroom in London and launched my first bridalwear collection. The collection was available as couture and via retailers throughout the UK including Harrods and Liberty as well as abroad. In 2003 a chance encounter with a restaurant Manager who couldn’t find interesting staff uniforms, I started designing and manufacturing for hotels, spas and restaurants. I am currently working with a new hotel, which is due to open in the Autumn in Ascot.

What teaching experiance have you had?

I have taught day workshops with West Sussex Adult Education.
