Sarah Drew
What will students gain if they come on one of your courses?
Practical skills that are usable straight away; confidence to just ‘have a go’ and try out new techniques; inspiration to re-evaluate materials that can be found and used to make jewellery.
Like to get inspiration from fashion magazines and books: encourage students to sketch ideas (doesn’t matter what the sketches look like) to develop their own designs.
Encourage 2-way process with students requesting help with techniques they’d like to do and cross-discipline development of new techniques (such as textiles/papercraft/ceramics) to create original pieces.
Like to remake old pieces and use things that are found easily and cheaply to make new jewellery.
Fashion: like to work in seasonal colours and incorporate current looks.
Art: bright, abstract artists such as Terry Frost, Sandra Blow, Matisse and Barbara Hepworth
Deco: design, architecture and fashion from 20s/30s
Coast: colours, textures and found objects from the beach, sea and sea-side towns.
