Teaching for me has always been about sharing, sharing my knowlege and experience within my craft. Now I teach within three different areas of calligraphy and lettering: firstly teaching traditional skills that have been passed down since medieval times is a practical approach; secondly showing and sharing my personal way of working gives freedom for the student to use their skills from a specific starting point and thirdly I facilitate and support the student in their own personal exploration using their individual experience and skills to express their own voice. In all areas I aim to encourage the student to be themselves.
What will students gain if they come on one of your courses?Students will gain new skills within the craft and find a way of working that is individual to themselves
Are there any particular techniques/processes you use in your teaching?During my courses there will be group and individual time. Group time gives an opportunity for the students to come together for sharing and discussion. Individual time gives me the opportunity to get to know each students need so i am able to give encouragement and support.
