I aim both to inspire and help students turn ‘problem’ areas of their gardens into opportunities to grow some of the gems of the horticultural world.

What will students gain if they come on one of your courses?

I hope they will have had an enjoyable and constructive day in good gardening company, and come away brimming with ideas and enthusiasm.

Are there any particular techniques/processes you use in your teaching?

Images of beautiful gardens and plants – personal experience of growing and gardening in many different conditions.

What inspires your own work?

Gardens both in the UK and all over the world.

My own garden in Somerset and on my website.

Where did you gain your training/experience?

NCH (Dist) from Hadlow College, Kent – Propagator at a specialist nursery – 20 years running my own small nursery, Mill Cottage Plants.

What teaching experience have you had?

I’ve lectured widely for over 25 years on a wide range of horticultural topics.

Have you written any books/had articles published?

‘Practical Propagation’ (Crowood Press, 2008), and ‘Ornamental Vegetable Gardening’ (Crowood Press, 2009). Articles in national and local publications.

Do you belong to any professional groups/societites?

Garden Media Guild, Royal Horticultural Society, Hardy Plant Society, Japanese Garden Society.
