What will students gain if they come on one of your courses?

An understanding of my own working practices over two decades, an ability to work indepentenly and take work forward.

Are there any particular techniques/processes you use in your teaching?

Kantha quilting/embroidery and some aspects of recyled textiles.

What inspires your own work?

All sorts of things, current favorites/regulars are folk art, popular culture and embroidery from different parts of the world.

Where can students see examples of your work?

Currently at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester. NOWGEN HQ Manchester and the Shipley Art Gallery Gateshead.

Where did you gain your training?

I have a textiles degree from Goldsmiths College in the early 1980s.

What teaching experience have you had?

I have been a Senior Lecturer on the Embroiedery Degree at MMU since 1992
I have taught craft based classes to special needs groups in London and Manchester
I have worked with a wide range of groups from womens groups to primary school children to ESOL classes.

Is your work in any public or private collections?

Yes Whitworth, V&A, Emb Guild, IQSC (US).

Have you written any books/had articles published?

Numeorus articles in Emb Mag featured in Crafts Mag and AN
Quilters Guild Pub 2008
and forthcoming book Machine Embroidery ed Alice kettle and jane Mc Keating.
