London Drawing: Directors and Tutors Anne Noble-Partridge & David Price
London Drawing aims to re-invent life drawing and drawing in an environment suitable for all levels of ability, designed to encourage confidence and inspire. Combining over 20 years of teaching experience and current professional practice, we aim produce unique drawing workshops, which are engaging, inspiring and entirely relevant to contemporary practice. Our approach to teaching is friendly, hands on, progressive and informative.
What will students gain if they come on one of your courses? We encourage participants in our classes to unlock their creativity. Our workshops actively encourage engagement and require participants to respond imaginatively in their own way to the ideas presented to them. Students will gain an insight into what can be achieved with very simple materials and ideas. We are interested in liberating the act of drawing from life into an explorative response which is genuinely creative.
Are there any particular techniques/processes you use in your teaching? We use very simple materials and processes in our teaching and give participants the freedom to explore ideas. Experimentation is key and our approach aims to challenge preconceived ideas about what life drawing is and its creative potential. We use the figure as a starting point through which ideas and concepts can be explored- from drawing with unconventional materials such as wire, drawing in 3D, exploring the naked figure in space and utilising the architecture of buildings to collage and concept based process drawing. Through this process the figure becomes more a part of a narrative- a source of inspiration from which participants are free to reach their own artistic conclusions.
Where can students see examples of your work?Check out our website - click here. It has lots of pictures which we will give you an idea of what to expect from our workshops. Also have a look at our Flickr site is also a really good source of information on our classes.
Where did you gain your training/experience?London Drawing works with Tate Modern, Central St Martins, Battersea Arts Centre and The Royal Institute Of British Architects to produce regular life drawing events, workshops and courses. We count The Barbican, The Design Museum, Tate Britain and the V&A amongst recent institutions we have worked with to produce workshops.
