My teaching approach is typified by what one student described as “a light touch” I keep my classes light hearted and fun using lots of anecdotes. This way I find that students stay engaged expressing inspiration and creativity. Also by staying open myself I find that I learn in different ways.
What will students gain if they come on one of your courses?Students will take away items that they have made to treasure for a lifetime. In addition they will have learnt valuable techniques that they can practice and build on should they wish to improve their skills. Students will be given advice on where to go for ongoing study as well as a supplier contact list .
Are there any particular techniques/processes you use in your teaching?I think its important that my students understand what leather is and where it comes from. I include an introduction to leather making giving examples using my own home tanned leather and skins.
What inspires your own work?The beauty of leather itself, traditional hand made work, classic and contemporary design.

Where did you gain your training/experience?Originally from my grandfather who was a Soho leather guilder. Then after a mid life change in direction I explored American leatherwork in California then more formally at Technical college in Walsall West Midlands studying saddlery, bridle-making and light leather goods manufacture. I continued by researching leather making traditions from many cultures replicating them at a home tannery as an educational project. One to one training with specialists in different fields of leatherwork
What teaching experience have you had?Freelance leatherwork tutor Waldorf education: schools, further education college (Ruskin Mill) families, foreign language and special needs students. My own week long or weekend courses advertised through my website for adult groups. Qualified in City and guilds Preparing to Teach in Lifelong Learning Sector
