Heather Gray-Newton

Heather Gray-Newton is inspired by the natural environment and our relationship with it. The sense of well being and identity summoned by experiencing landscape space or the sea, is expressed through poetic interpretation. Heather is also interested in how our attachment to objects and places, contributes toward identity. Heather is proficient in many different media, and selects as appropriate to best express a particular concept. Sound drawing skills always underpin the work.

Heather holds a First Class Hons Degree in 3/D Design, along with a PG DIP in Painting and Drawing, and MA in Visual Arts, (University of Sussex - West Dean College of Arts and Conservation).

Heather has years of teaching experience specialising in both adult and school education regarding drawing, painting and mixed media. Heather has been accepted in the National Open Art Competition and won the Stride Open in 2010. Please see her website, for current work and forthcoming exhibitions.

Describe your approach to teaching:
I teach through demonstrations giving art history contexts where appropriate. I provide feedback, encouraging and challenging students to develop their own visual language. I aim to inspire creative thinking.
